The hopes of 10 needy pupils from Thika West Sub County of joining Form one was actualized after local National government coordinators donated school uniforms and other accessories.
The pupils who had been accompanied by their parents at the Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Douglas Mutai’s office could not hide their joy after their desire to pursue their dreams was actualized.
Valentine Wambua, a Makongeni resident and who was impregnated while in Class eight, had her dice cast as her mother had decided that she first take care of her baby before she joined secondary school in 2021. To her, the coordinators’ gesture was a miracle and she would now be able to pursue her dream.
“It was while I had lost hope that my primary school head teacher in the company of the area Chief and the Assistant County Commissioner showed up at our home and directed that I have to join Form one. My mother was instructed to take care of my kid. It was such a joy to finally pursue my dream,” said an elated Valentine.
Esther Mwikali has the government to thank for enforcing the 100 per cent transition rate as she had lost hope of secondary education after scoring 153 marks in KCPE.
According to her mother, Mary Kambua from Matharu slum within Thika West, were it not for the support, her child would have stayed home. Mwikali will now join Kimosho Girls High School.
Samuel Kabui, a pupil, from Majengo estate within Thika, had high hopes of joining a national school but attained 283 marks.
He managed to receive school uniform, and other financial assistance from the local CDF offices.
According to Mutai, the pupils were identified by their Chiefs and Nyumba Kumi coordinators after reports emerged that they had not joined Form One despite completing primary school last year. Money was raised and uniform and other items required in school purchased.
Mutai said the Sub County was working towards achieving the 100 per cent transition rate and called on this pupils locked out by financial difficulties to report to his office, noting only 10-15 pupils were yet to report to Form One adding that they hope to achieve the target by next week.
