An orphan girl who got 343 marks in last year’s KCPE examination but failed to join secondary school due to financial constraints is appealing for financial support to enable her join form 1in a Malindi school.
Mwana Maua Mlongo topped her class of 27 candidates but her fate hangs in the balance as her guardians are unable to raise money for purchasing required items after they successfully found her a sponsor after many months of seeking for help.
She was admitted to Ngao Girls secondary school in Tana River County but had no money to pay school fees, shopping and travel expenses.
With tears evident in her eyes during the interview, Mlongo said she has been visiting homes of her former classmates who joined secondary school to study their school works.
The distraught teenager who aspires to be an engineer expressed fears that she might not proceed to secondary school due to financial problems at home and appealed to well-wishers to sponsor her education.
Last week her guardians, Bamwaka Rajab and his wife Amina Jefwa got her a well-wisher who agreed to pay her four year school fees in Kokoneni girl’s secondary school in Malindi, Kilifi county.
Rajab thanked Kakoneni girls’ secondary school headmistress for offering the girl a place in her school despite having missed two terms.
The good Samaritans said the girl requires between Sh.38, 000 and 45,000 to enable her buy uniforms, books and shopping.
The big hearted but needy couple said the girl hails from poor background and she strived to stay focused and discipline throughout her primary school years.
