Commissioner warns sluggish public servants

The  Narok County Commissioner (CC), Samuel Kimiti has warned sluggish public servants that they risk disciplinary action.

Speaking in his office on Wednesday, Kimiti said the President had tasked them to deliver services to wananchi during the one-week workshop in Mombasa a week ago and thus directed local public servants to offer quality services to residents with commitment.

“This is the time we have to prove ourselves by doing what we are mandated to do perfectly. Every head of department should be conversant with what they are doing as a department,” he reiterated.

Kimiti urged heads of departments to consult with him on several issues that could be challenging them, as he would not expect any officer to give an excuse for not delivering as expected.

“Consulting with me should be a continuous exercise. I am ready to reason out with every departmental head in a bid to ensure they deliver services as expected,” assured Kimiti.

He complained that some government officials were spending a lot of time doing private businesses at the expense of serving wananchi who go to their offices seeking services.

“I wonder why a public servant should shut the office to eat or engage in other unproductive activities when people are waiting to be served,” he said.

He challenged public servants to help in the fight against terrorism by reporting any suspicious person to the police.

“If you notice something peculiar in your surroundings, kindly let us know because security is a responsibility of all of us,” continued the CC.

Kimiti also challenged all public servants to work smart and cultivate a good relationship with their clients without asking for bribes or other favours from them.

The CC, who is six months old in the county, promised to lead in monitoring all government projects being implemented in the county to ensure funds allocated to them is not embezzled.
