Immigration officers in Kisumu have repatriated seven Egyptian aliens in a swoop on illegal immigrants in the area.
The seven were arrested last week at Milimani Estate in Kakamega during a sting operation organized by the regional immigration office.
Kamal Mohamed Abas Abousheish, Hatem Mohamed Ali Ashour, Yussef Ali Abdelgawad Elsaadeny, Eissawy Atai Mohamed Mansour, Mohamed Samir Mahmud Elnagar, Mohamed Abdalah Elshahat Abdelhalim and Mohamed Hatem Mohamed Ashour were found to be in the country illegally.
According the Western Deputy Regional Immigration Officer, Tom Anyim, the aliens were found hawking carpets and utensils without the necessary permits.
Anyim confirmed that they were flown back to Egypt on Friday, adding that their items were also confiscated.
Kisumu and the western region at large has witnessed an influx in the number of foreigners who hawk household items and electronics.
The immigration office has launched a crackdown on the illegal immigrants engaged in the business who come into the country as tourists before venturing into hawking.
