Wa Iria to run for presidency in 2022

Murang’a governor Mwangi wa Iria will be seeking for a bigger political position after he completes his second and final term as county chief.

Wa Iria said he will use his newly registered party, Civic Renewal Party (CRP) as the political vehicle to clinch the country’s presidency come 2022.

Speaking in Murang’a town Monday, the governor said from his experience and development record, he is qualified to vie for the top seat.

Wa Iria said like any other leaders aspiring to be the president of Kenya, he expects to get home backing especially by residents of Mount Kenya region.

His sentiments come at a time when political temperatures at the central region have reached fever pitch, with some local leaders condemning the Jubilee administration for what they termed as poor performance of the economy.

Wa Iria is the only governor from central region who managed to be re-elected for second term in 2017.

He asked people and leaders from Murang’a to support his presidential bid come 2022, but he was quick to state the announcement of his political ambitions does not mean he is now engaged in premature campaigns.

Meanwhile, the governor took a swipe at leaders who are disrespecting the President saying such habits were against the African culture.

He said leaders who are accusing the president of lack of development are doing so out of ignorance. “Who is living in this nation who cannot see what the Jubilee administration has done?” Any leader claiming that this region has been sidelined is ignorant,” said the governor.

The governor said unnecessary politicking was letting the President down since people who are supposed to back him are out there complaining for no reason.

“The President is our leader and he is like our father, thus deserves due respect. The leaders complaining should focus on achieving their development agenda,” he added.

Wa Iria said the work of president is well articulated and some of the individuals who are complaining are not conversant to what they were elected to do.

Some leaders from central region have been quoted accusing the President and his administration of what they term as falling of economy.

Recently, Kandara MP Alice Wahome in a presser said the President is to blame for poor economic growth and stifling of democracy in the country.

Wa Iria said every leader has his/her line of work and instead of accusing the President they should commit themselves to serving the people who elected them.
