Kitui High Court Judge, Lilian Mutende, was last monday involved in an accident near Syongila market, four kilometres West of Kitui Town.
Kitui County Police Commander, Johana Tonui, said the vehicle carrying Justice Mutende lost control and swerved onto the lane of oncoming traffic, leading to a head on collision with a matatu heading to Nairobi.
Tonui said that the Judge sustained head and chest injuries from the mishap, but her driver was unscathed.
News about the Justice Mutende’s accident led to temporal adjournment of court proceedings at the Kitui Law Courts, as colleagues rushed to Kitui Level Five Hospital where the judicial officer was rushed for treatment.
At the medical facility, doctors who attended to her said that she needed specialized treatment after giving her first aid.
At around 3 pm, plans were finalized to transfer the top Judge to Nairobi Hospital for specialized treatment.
Later on, court proceedings progressed well despite the morning accident, as matters before her were placed before the Chief Magistrate, Stephen Mbungi, for directions.
