Police on high alert to curb terrorist’s entry through Highway

Police  in Kiambu County have intensified surveillance to combat possible entry of terrorist gangs to the country’s capital and other parts using the Thika–Garissa Highway.

The  Kiambu County Police Commander (CPC), Ali  Nuno  said they are on high alert and have so far arrested three suspects believed to be Al Shabaab in the last three weeks and handed them over to the Anti-terrorism Unit.

He  said two of them were arrested while on a Garissa-Nairobi bound bus three weeks ago along the highway while the third was arrested two weeks ago in Thika’s Makongeni Estate.

“We  are very well prepared to combat any terrorist activity. We know they may use the Thika-Garissa Highway to gain entry into the Capital city. We have intensified crackdowns on road blocks and are working on intelligence report,” he said.

The  Kiambu County Commissioner (CC), Wilson  Wanyanga  assured residents of their safety, saying the County Security team is on high alert.

This comes as the country is on high alert following incidences of terror attacks in some parts of the country.

“We are on top of things to secure the public, infrastructure and institutions,” he said during a meeting with security teams from Juja, Gatundu North, Gatundu South, Thika East, Thika West and Ruiru Sub-counties in Thika on Tuesday.

Nuno at the same time, called out rogue police officers who were involved in crime, saying disciplinary and administrative action will be taken against them.

This comes as female police officer was arrested on Saturday for breaking into an Alcoholic manufacturing plant in Thika and together with accomplices stole alcoholic drinks valued at Sh.3million.

Another officer was arrested while logging, and has since been charged in court.

“We shall not cover-up for individual officers who are turning against the members of the public to commit crime. Once the court process is over, administrative actions will be taken against them,” he said.
