Security team destroy betting machines

The  Rachuonyo  South Sub County DCC, Ibrahim Hassan on Monday led a security team to setting ablaze gambling machines.

The gambling machines were confiscated in Kachien Sub Location by assistant chief, Bernard Muga  who was working in conjunction with police officers from Sikri police post. The Chinese made machines were confiscated from different joints in the sub location

The DCC said police were able to confiscate three gambling machines and said they have intensified effort to get rid of the illegal activities that attract school going children in the sub county.

“At a time when the government has increased effort to ensure 100% transition from primary to secondary education, betting was affecting these efforts adversely,” the Deputy Commissioner said.

He said gambling has misguided many youth and school going children and some have dropped out of school to engage in petty theft to sustain betting appetite but vowed not to relent in their effort to rid the sub county of all forms of illegal gambling.

The DCC who led the security team in burning the machine at Oyugis police post ground called on the public to report any cases of gambling spotted in their area.

The  Monday action brought the number of machines rounded up from various trading centres and destroyed in the sub county since last year to 46.

The  crack down on gambling machines follows an order by Interior Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang’i to county and regional commissioners in 2018 crackdown on gambling premises and confiscate unlicensed gambling machines in their area.
