Expectant mothers and children at the Thika Level Five Hospital received a rare Christmas treat from Bidco Company as a way of encouragement and goodwill this festive season.
The Company’s Choir interacted with the hundreds of patients in the wards, sang Christmas carols and surprised them with juices, energy drinks and water.
The Company’s Corporate Communication representative, Willis Ojwan’g, said the festive period is hard for mothers and children being away from their families at the hospitals.
“This is a special time for many but challenging for patients, especially children and mothers and that’s why the Company chose to uplift them through singing Christmas carols, sharing with them their experiences and offering them some goodies,” said Ojwan’g.
To Janet Wafula, the visit came as a form of uplift to her hopelessness after she lost her baby during delivery.
Wafula had been admitted at the hospital on Monday with the hope of being discharged on Christmas day, safe to go home with her child but it was never to be.
“I was happy when going to the delivery room to have my baby on Christmas day, but I lost the child. This struck me completely, making me hopeless, especially seeing other mothers who we were admitted with breast-feeding their children.
However, when the choir came in singing Christmas songs and giving us goodies, I felt uplifted and encouraged. It meant a lot that despite what I am going through, there are people out there who care,” she said
The moment was also uplifting for children who had been hospitalized for various ailments as they interacted with the choir.
Their mothers could not hide their joy as they sang the corals with the choir despite the low moments they were going through at the hospital.
“No one would like to have their young children fighting for their lives in hospitals leave alone celebrating Christmas here in the wards. It is a hard time for us, but at least we have received encouragement,” said Lucy Waithera, one of the mothers.
According to the Choir Master, Boniface Mutunga, the group aims to bring hope and encouragement to patient.
They also visited Thika Nursing Hospital and Kamiti Juvenile Prison.
They called on other companies to emulate the good gesture and extend gratitude to other members of the community.
