Nakwamekwi residents in Lodwar have demanded action from government to end perennial water problems in the area.
The village is among the most populated areas in Lodwar town and has experienced water shortages for many years.
The Turkana Central Member of Parliament, John Lodepe, who also resides in the area lamented that despite many pleas to the Ministry of Water, nothing has been done.
Lodepe also hit out at the County Executive Committee (CEC) member for Water, Namuar Emathe, for allegedly failing to discharge his duties responsibly.
“I had advised Governor, Josphat Nanok, not to appoint Emathe to the post of the CEC for water but he did not heed my call,” said Lodepe.
Lodepe, however, clarified that he has no ill feelings towards the CEC Emathe.
Water from boreholes sunk in the area was diverted to serve Lodwar town during floods.
“The residents feel short-changed despite many promises by the government to supply them with adequate water,” added Lodepe.
The water which was supposed to be piped to the villages of Nakwamekwi was marred with challenges among them delays by the contractor to deliver the work in time.
