According to Nyanza Regional Police Commander (RPC), Dr. Vincent Makokha, Justice Odek was found dead in his house at Groove Hut apartments in Kisumu town on Monday morning.
Makokha said the Judge’s house was locked from inside and phones were switched off.
“His staff had tried to contact him on his numbers but failed and thus police were called in and broke the door,” he said.
According to the Chief Magistrate, Julius Ng’ar Ng’ar, when his driver went to pick him on Monday morning, he found the door locked. That is when he went to report the matter at Kisumu’ s Central Police Station and police moved in to break the door.
He said the deceased’s body was partly covered with a blanket with one of his hands supporting his head as he slept on his back.
The Police Boss said there were no any physical interference in his bed room where the body was found or visible injuries on his body.
Makokha said a team of investigators and a pathologist were quickly mobilized to assess the scene before the body was moved to Aga Khan Hospital Mortuary for postmortem.
The RPC said the 56- year- old Judge, who stays alone in the apartment next to the Central Police Station, drove himself to the compound last Friday only for his body to be discovered today morning.
“We cannot ascertain when he died, whether it was on Friday, Saturday, Sunday or today morning and we are not sure of the cause of death. The pathologists will carry out a post mortem and establish the cause,” he added.
Judge Odek became a Judge of Court of Appeal in 2012.
