Construction of Thwake multipurpose dam on course

The  construction of Thwake multipurpose dam currently stands at 32 percent, the Project Manager, Musembi Munyao has said.

Munyao termed the progress as impressive but noted that the ongoing heavy rains have hampered construction works, slowing the pace.

Addressing the County Development Implementation and Coordination Committee (CDICC)  on Tuesday at the County Commissioner’s boardroom in Wote, the project manager also said the contractor, China Ghezouba Company (CGC) had mobilised all the required equipment for the construction of the dam.

He  disclosed the contractor had acquired the much needed crusher machine that had delayed at the port due to clearance. “The crusher was cleared from the port and there will be more activities as the contractor can now crush rocks,” said Munyao.

The  project manager said that the 11 land succession cases that had been pending have been finalised paving way for compensation. “The cases have been concluded and the claims for payments are currently being processed,” he said.

The  dam, being constructed at the confluence of rivers Thwake and Athi in Makueni and Kitui counties, is a Vision 2030 flagship project jointly funded by  the government and the African Development Bank.
