A mother of two from Garissa town is appealing for
to help her raise Sh.250,000 to enable her son suffering from urine incontinence undergo a corrective surgery.
Addressing the press on Tuesday at Kazuku Primary School where she sought refuge after being displaced by floods Gladys Mueni 37, said doctors at AIC Kijabe Hospital require Sh.250,000 to carry out a second operation after the first one failed.
Mueni said her two-year-old son was born with the condition and they first sought treatment at the Garissa referral hospital but were referred to Kenyatta National Hospital.
According to a medic at Garissa Referral Hospital, urine incontinence is a condition in which a patient is not able to hold urine for long at the bladder.
Doctors at Kenyatta hospital also referred her to AIC Kijabe where Benjamin Musyoka was operated on in May 9, 2018 but according to the mother the ‘surgery failed’. They spent Sh.136,000.
Mueni who is a housewife said they depended entirely on her husband to put food on their table and pay school fees for their form 3 daughter schooling at UmSalama girls secondary school in Garissa town.
“Life has become extremely difficult for us. I take care of Benjamin on a 24-hour basis and I can’t go out to fend for my family after my husband abandoned us when we needed him most,” Mueni said.
“We used his (husband) NHIF card to pay for the Sh.136,000 operation. It’s a double tragedy after we were displaced by the floods. Life has become even difficult,” she added.
She said her husband abandoned them when he realized the boy was not improving.
“We are always in and out of hospital. That is why I am appealing to well-wishers to help treat my son’, she said.
