An AK 47 rifle that was snatched from a Siaya police officer three weeks ago has been recovered in the neighbouring Busia county.
The gun was recovered on Tuesday in a sting operation that also saw the arrest of three suspects at Mauko estate, the Siaya County Police Commander, Francis Kooli confirmed to the Kenya News Agency.
According to the police sources, no ammunitions were however recovered during the operation that was jointly conducted by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the Special Crimes Prevention Unit.
The sources said that the police impounded a Ugandan registered Toyota Premio vehicle, that is suspected to have been stolen from the neighbouring country.
Three weeks ago, the lone policeman who was heading for guard duties at the Siaya County was waylaid by thugs on a motorcycle along the road that hosts the Kenya Red Cross Society and Siaya Governor, James Orengo’s offices.
The Administration policeman, Sirar Saitoti, who had just left the area county Commissioner’s residence suffered serious cuts on his head and face and was left bleeding profusely along the poorly lit street, as the thugs, said to be a man and a woman took off with the gun and his phone.
