Families continue to flee their homes as desperation sets in

More  families in flood prone areas along the River  Tana continue to flee their homes as they heed the government’s call to move to safer grounds.

The victims especially women, children and the elderly have however expressed their disappointment at the slow pace with which the government is responding to their plight.

At  Mororo in neighbouring Tana River county the number of those affected on Tuesday morning stood at 300 families.

The number is expected to rise further following prediction by the weatherman that the current heavy rain will continue for the next one week.

According to Dereso Habajila a resident of Kamkunji, one of the areas most affected by the floods they started moving out last night as it became evident that the surging flood water would submerge their mud houses.

“We started mobilizing the youth to help in moving out household goods to safer grounds. But because we did not know where to go, we resorted to pitch camp by the roadside,” Habajila said.
