The Tana River County Police Commander (CPC), Fredrick Ochieng has confirmed that 758 families at Pamba village, Bakuyu, Milimani and Mathadheni areas in Mbalambala location have been displaced.
Speaking to the press in his office on Monday in Hola, Ochieng said heavy rains that were experienced Sunday swept away their houses and the displaced families have been relocated to Garissa Farmers Training Centre.
The CPC said the heavy rains that pounded the area for over six hours increased water level in River Tana and advised people staying in the lower levels to move to higher grounds to avoid being affected by floods.
The Kenya Red Cross Society Tana River County Branch Coordinator, Gerald Bombe said his team was monitoring the water levels of River Tana in order to ensure people staying along the river are safe.
Bombe also called on the well-wishers and humanitarian agencies to come forward to assist the displaced families with food, nonfood items such as mosquito nets, medical drugs and water.
