A 25-year-old man suspected to be behind a spate of violent crimes in Amalo area in Kuresoi South Sub County was last Thursday lynched after villagers found him with stolen goods.
Witnesses said the irate villagers descended on the man with crude weapons after some of the household items including electronics belonging to the 79-year-old man who was killed during a recent violent robbery at his homestead were found in his possession.
Villagers decried that a spate of violent robberies in the area had reached alarming proportions and it had come to a point they could not take it any longer and opted “to take the law into their own hands and dispatched him to his maker”
The area Chief, Wesley Langat confirmed the incident and urged the locals to stop engaging in mob justice whenever a person commits crime but instead allow the law take its course.
Langat noted that mob justice is not a lasting solution to ending crime in the area but with use of the appropriate channels to address crime issues in the area, will help a lot in dealing with such cases.
He further revealed that the slain suspect had an accomplice who is still at large but the police have already launched a manhunt.
The deceased old man is said to have been a beneficiary of the Inua Jamii program for the elderly and had returned from collecting his stipend which was also missing.
The body of the deceased was taken to Olenguruone hospital mortuary to await postmortem examination.
