The government has released Sh.8.7 billion for payment to beneficiaries enrolled in cash transfer programme nationally.
The money that will be channeled through the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection will see at least 1, 092,195 cash transfer beneficiaries receive payments from this week.
In Trans Nzoia, area Children’s Officer, Aston Maungu said 17,585 people will benefit from the popular Inua Jamii programme getting a total of sh.140,680,000 million.
The beneficiaries of the program, include Orphans and Vulnerable children, older persons and persons with severe disability.
Trans Nzoia County registered 4,931 orphans and vulnerable children, 12,178 older persons, and only 478 persons living with severe disability.
Each of the beneficiaries will take home sh8, 000 of the two cycles of July, August and September/ October 2019 from different pay points in the region.
Those who will benefit must have successfully opened bank accounts for the three programmes under the consolidated cash transfer programme by October 15th 2019.
The government, under the new system has cleaned the payroll and only genuine people under the programme will benefit.
Care givers and beneficiaries can access the payment at their own convenience over the next six months to avoid overcrowding at pay points and are also allows to withdraw all the money or part of the potion.
Maungu said that listed pay-point include Co-operative Bank, Equity Bank, Kenya Commercial Bank and Post Bank.
Care givers or beneficiaries will be allowed to access the money either at the nearest bank and can withdraw over the counter, through agents, ATMs using Inua Jamii cards or through cash on transit.
Once paid, Maungu asked beneficiaries to demand for a transaction receipt to confirm the amount withdrawn for accountability purposes.
Beneficiaries/caregivers need to have Inua Jamii payment card and beneficiaries’ national ID when going for payment.
Maungu advised beneficiaries to use their stipend to improve on their livelihoods.
