Congratulatory messages from a cross section of leaders from Uasin Gishu continue to pour in for the newly appointed Bishop of Eldoret Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dominic Kimengich.
Political leaders from the county, including Governor Jackson Mandago, the Kapseret MP, Oscar Sudi and Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker, David Kiplagat, said the Rt. Rev. Kimengich was the right person to continue with the work started by the late Rt. Rev. Bishop Cornelius Korir.
“Congratulations Rt. Rev. Dominic Kimengich for being appointed the Bishop of Eldoret Diocese. The reward of serving the Lord is beyond human imagination, I am certain that you will lead the Diocese to greater heights from where the late Bishop Korir left,” said Mandago.
In his remarks Sudi said, “As leaders from the region, we have faith in Bishop Kimengich and we hope he will be in the forefront in preaching peace, we wish him well in his endeavors”.
The County Assembly Speaker also congratulated Bishop Kimengich, urging him to continue with the legacy of Bishop Korir.
The Eldoret Diocese position of Bishop was left vacant on October 30th 2017, following the demise of the then Bishop Cornelius Korir.
The Kitale Diocese Bishop Maurice Anthony Crowley was appointed to steer the Diocese as a caretaker Bishop following the death of Bishop Korir, a celebrated peace crusader in the cattle rustling prone zones of the North Rift.
On Saturday, Pope Francis appointed Rt. Rev. Kimengich to be the Bishop of the Eldoret Diocese, moving him from Lodwar Diocese where he served before the appointment.
Bishop Korir, who died at the age of 67, stood out because of his peace building initiatives and played a major role in reconciling warring communities after the 2007/2008 post-election violence.
Bishop Korir was laid to rest in a special tomb inside the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eldoret.
