Candidate dies after sitting for Biology paper

A KCSE candidate at Memba Mixed Secondary School in Rarieda sub-county died Friday after completing his Biology practical paper.

The deceased, Fredrick Juma died at St. Elizabeth Lwak Mission hospital where he had been rushed after he developed chest pains immediately after sitting for the paper.

According to the area Education Director Mr Elijah Adie, the student is said to have sat his Biology practical paper during the morning hours and completed well, before he started complaining to his colleagues that he was feeling unwell.

The boy is said to have collapsed before he was quickly rushed to the nearby St. Mary’s Lwak Mission hospital where he was pronounced dead a few minutes after arrival.

Adie ruled out fears that the student may have been affected by chemicals used in the exam, adding that deceased had a history of chest problems and may have died of natural causes.

The director disclosed that is body is lying at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting postmortem.
