Residents Urged to Start Tree Nurseries

Residents of Mukothima ward and Tharaka North at large have been urged to prepare tree nurseries to avoid importing tree seedlings from other parts of the county.

Speaking during a tree planting exercise at Mukothima primary school in Tharaka North Sub-county, Chuka University Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Erastus Njoka said the tree nurseries will empower them economically as the university purposes to plant many trees in its environmental conservation campaign.

Professor Njoka said the University had already exhausted tree seedlings from Chuka residents and required more from residents in other parts of Tharaka.

“Today we’ve bought trees from other areas. I would like to challenge you all to have nurseries where we can be buying from since the tree planting campaign is ongoing,” said the VC.

Professor Njoka added that there is a need for the residents of Tharaka Nithi County to embrace environmental conservation planting by planting more trees besides harvesting rain water for irrigation pointing out it would be handy during dry seasons.

The VC urged residents to practice good morals by sharing with others during this long holiday.
