The Transport sector stakeholders in Kisii County had reason to smile after the area County Government waived their tax arrears ending a prolonged standoff between the operators and the executive.
Motorcyclists also referred to as ‘’Boda Boda’’ and public service vehicle operators will henceforth start paying for stickers from this month.
The Deputy Governor, Joash Maangi, who is in charge of revenue collection said the waiver was prompted by the urgent need to streamline the tax collection.
Addressing the operators on Wednesday at Culture Hall, Maangi urged the operators to pay for the fresh stickers.
Maangi refuted claims that the county had lost revenue totaling Sh.91million in the industry last financial year, saying the figure was the target revenue whose which was not met.
The Kisii County motorcyclists’ leader, Gichore Orechi appealed to the operators to cooperate with the county in tax payment if the area was to develop.
The PSV operators commended the county government for the move and promised commitment in prompt payment.
