Turkana leaders and KDF engage on land acquisition for military bases

The  Turkana  county leaders  and  senior Kenya Defense Forces Officers on Monday held a consultative meeting over  land acquisition for proposed military bases in different areas of Turkana.

The  meeting  agreed to continue with consultations and hold public participation forums to ensure views of residents of proposed areas are incorporated in the final decision-making. Among the issues discussed are size of land to be acquired as well as its location.

In  the meeting  were Senator  Malachy  Ekal, Members of Parliament John Lodepe (Turkana Central), Christopher Nakuleu (Turkana North) and Daniel Epuyo (Turkana West) and the Turkana County Assembly Speaker, Erastus Lokaale.

The  KDF team was led by Major General (Rtd) Maurice Oyugi  who is the Chair Ad Hoc Committee on Military Land and General Officer Commanding WestCom, Major General, Joseph Kivunzi.

The  Members of the County Assembly were led by Leader of Majority, Bethwel Lochor and Leader of Minority Benedict Lokamar.

Senior  County Government officials included,the  County Secretary Peter Eripete, CECs Esther Lokwei (Public Service and Disaster Management) and Dr. Anthony Apalia (Lands, Energy, Housing and Urban Areas Management), Chief Officer for Lands, Joshua Lemuya, Chief of Staff Ekuwom Nakiporo, Senior Advisor for Security, Peace and Borderlands Initiatives Augustine Lokwang among others.
