Meru town residents have been urged to cooperate with the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) pending the construction of a dual carriageway earmarked to start late next year.
The Imenti North MP, Rahim Dawood told public participation forums that the project estimated to cost Sh.5billion will affect some people’s premises for it to succeed.
Dawood appealed particularly to landlords whose premises shall be affected to ensure they notify their tenants in time so that they have enough time to move.
He said the project though depending on the availability of funds will be a landmark for the Jubilee Government since Meru region has been overwhelmingly supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto since 2013.
“I am wholly in support for this project since such mega projects don’t come so easy. The residents will encounter little difficulties which will be sorted out,” stated Dawood.
He asked those that will be affected to liaise with his office so that they can be assisted to get information regarding their plots.
“Those are unable to get valuation, succession and survey for their plots, I have offered myself to support get the services,” said the MP explaining that it is not always that they agree with where Kenha has placed beacons.
The 13-kilometre road that runs between Gikumene area on the main Nairobi-Nanyuki Highway for 88.2kms, terminating at Gitoro ASK showground is aimed at eliminating the incessant traffic jams in Meru Town.
The other way will run from Makutano Junction to Ruiri junction on the Meru-Maua Highway.
The project is mapped to take 2 years.
Preliminary drafts by the consultants show that 144 plots owned by 140 institutions and individuals are due for compulsory acquisition to accommodate interchanges at Gitimbine, Makutano, Kaaga, Ruiri and Gitoro
