Devolution CS, Eugene Wamalwa, has appealed to political leaders to stop engaging in political succession politics and the referendum debate, and focus their energies on development.
He said the new found unity between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga should be a cue to every leader that it was time to preach peace, unity and development.
Wamalwa said if not checked, the succession debate and push for referendum that was fast gaining momentum, would easily cloud and derail the development plan of the President’s big four agenda.
“We want our leaders to devolve the handshake to every part of the country, preaching peace, unity and development,” said the CS Sunday at a church fundraiser in Kieni Constituency, Nyeri.
Area MP, Kanini Kega, said the heated political environment in the country was not good for the economy that had almost been brought to its knees, following the protracted and disputed presidential election.
“There can be no meaningful development in the current state of affairs,” said Kega, adding that President Kenyatta should be given time to deliver on his pledges to Kenyans.
Former Gem MP, Jakoyo Midiwo, said it was not time to engage in politics, but bringing Kenyans together and accused leaders from both sides of the political divide for engaging in too much politics at the expense of peace.
He said some of the changes politicians were clamoring for did not even require a referendum to fix, but rather goodwill and a well-managed country, free of theft and corruption.
Elsewhere, Nyeri Town MP, Ngunjiri Wambugu, castigated fellow leaders allied to Jubilee government of engaging in 2022 succession debate instead of supporting the president to achieve his development plan.
Speaking at a thanksgiving ceremony for the Akorino sect at Kamukunji grounds, the MP accused a host of fellow legislators, led by National Assembly majority leader, Aden Duale and his Senate counterpart, Kipchumba Murkomen of leading the debate.
He said it was insincere of them to lead the campaign for Deputy President, William Ruto ahead of 2022 election instead of supporting the president to fulfill his agenda.
“It is very disrespectful to the President, to see some of our colleagues engage in campaign politics for Deputy President, instead of assisting him realize his mission,” said the MP.
Ngunjiri has in the past clashed with some of his colleagues on his stand on the succession debate, where at one point claimed support for DP in 2022 was not automatic in Central Kenya.
