The Water Resources Management Authority (WRMA) has asked people who live near rivers and streams particularly those harboring dams to relocate to higher grounds following continued rains.
The Trans Nzoia WRMA’s Regional Sub Manager, David Mumo said that residents of Trans Nzoia, West Pokot Bungoma and Busia should move to safe places to avoid risks associated with flooding.
Speaking to the press in Kitale on Monday, Mumo said continued rains may cause havoc through flooding and residents in affected areas should immediately take necessary precaution.
The meteorological department recorded high rainfall in the region in July August and September and predicts the currents rains to be above normal.
Mumo feared that the poor state of dams in the region may cause them to burst and cause massive destruction.
“This is to inform the general public within Trans Nzoia, west Pokot, Busia and Bungoma that following heavy rains, they should relocate to safer grounds,” he emphasized.
Some of the areas that experience flooding in the region include Namanjallala in Trans Nzoia and Budalang’i in Busia.
