The burial of a son to former cabinet minister’s son in Siaya County was disrupted Saturday afternoon when Rarieda Member of Parliament, Otiende Amollo collapsed shortly after addressing the mourners.
Panic gripped the somber ceremony at Pap Kakan in Siaya as senate minority leader, James Orengo, who had taken to the podium to address the mourners was forced to cut short his speech after the first term legislator collapsed suddenly.
The legislator was among the leaders who had gone to condole with former cabinet minister, Peter Oloo Aringo, who was burying his son, the late Tom Aringo when the incident happened.
Otiende Amollo, who is also a prominent city lawyer, had earlier addressed the mourners where he castigated local members of the county assembly for frustrating the efforts of the local governor, Cornel Rasanga to deliver effective service to the residents by refusing to clear his nominees during vetting in the county assembly.
He had taken back his seat when he started displaying signs of discomfort, before collapsing with foam oozing from his mouth.
Leaders at the high table, among them Siaya township MCA, Obiero Otare quickly moved in and carried him to awaiting vehicle that dashed off to an unknown destination.
Kenya News Agency later learnt that the MP was rushed to Bondo Medical centre where, after first aid, he was taken into a Kenya Red Cross society ambulance that took him to Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu.
The burial was attended by members of parliament, Samwel Atandi (Alego/Usonga), Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja) and Dr. Oburu Odinga (East Africa Legislative Asembly) among others.
