Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has promised to increase household level water pans in a bid to encourage water harvesting.
While pledging to excavate water pans for 550 households in Laikipia West Constituency, Kiunjuri noted the need to harvest water in a bid to cushion the residents against drought.
“We are encouraging you to harvest water at household level because our soils are good enough to assure us of all-year-round farming,” added Kiunjuri.
He urged the residents of Laikipia West Constituency to respect the national government led by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto, noting that all projects whether by National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF) or the County government were all funded by the national government.
The CS spoke in Nyahururu on Saturday when he presided over the issuance of Driving licences to 1, 210 boda boda riders who had successfully been trained and assessed courtesy of the Laikipia West NG-CDF kitty.
“This boda boda sponsorship will continue and our plans are to create a SACCO where you will benefit more through loans and dividends,” noted Kiunjuri promising to make a seed capital of Sh1million to the SACCO.
Laikipia West MP Patrick Mariru said more than 6, 000 boda boda riders in the area yearned to have a SACCO of their own and will be assisted in registering their Sacco.
The riders pleaded with their legislators to lobby for reduced fees to allow for a smooth transition from the old licences into the new Smart Driving Licences.
“The charges of Shs.3, 050 are too high for us, we propose Shs.1, 050,” said John Nderitu, a resident of Kiamariga.
