Two children aged 5 and 7 years were killed in a fire incident which guttered down fabricated iron sheet houses at Sofia estate in Arujo Location of Homa Bay Sub County early Friday.
The minors, a brother and sister were burnt beyond recognition in a fire incident which broke out at around 1.00 a.m. when they were sleeping in their house together with their parents.
Confirming the incident to KNA, area Assistant chief Jacktone Olielo said that the fire started in one of the houses before escalating to the entire plot with 13 doors.
Olielo who rushed to the scene during the incident added that the minors’ parents were able to escape while their efforts to rescue children were futile since the fire was centered near the door making it difficult to access the house.
The administrator revealed that one of the children who were sleeping together with the two managed to escape after sustaining serious injuries and was rushed to Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral hospital where he is still recuperating.

The bodies of the minors were removed to Homa Bay county referral hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem as police officers launched investigations into the incident to ascertain the cause of the inferno.
