County challenged to provide firefighting machines

Homa bay County government has been challenged to ensure that they put necessary mechanisms in addressing perennial fire out breaks in the area.

This follows an incident which occurred Saturday where two minors were burnt beyond recognition when their house caught fire.

Homa Bay County woman representative Gladys Wanga regretted that the region has been experiencing fire out breakes and yet the county government had done nothing to address the vice.

Wanga added that the residents have lost properties worth millions of shillings during the incidents, citing the recent case where the area County Commissioner Harman Shambi lost everything when his residential house caught fire.

The woman Rep further blamed the county government for not purchasing firefighting machines despite the funds being allocated for the same year in year out.

Wanga said this in Homa bay town when she visited the victims the fire incident, where she also castigated the officers working in the disaster department for laxity in performing their duties.

Elsewhere, some of the survivors in a fire incident narrated how they narrowly escaped death during the inferno.

The fire which is suspected to have been caused by electric fault burnt down the entire plot hosting 13 doors with no properties salvaged.

Richard Nyamuaro who lost his two children and all his properties in the flames said that he managed to escape during the tragedy with his wife and other two children after cutting through the iron sheet since the houses were mabati structures.

Nyamuaro added that the fire started at the sitting room where the children were sleeping before it engulfed the entire house, adding that they struggled to access the house and rescue the minors but all in vain.

At the same time, Nyamuaro who is a business man in Homa Bay Town further said that he lost all his household items and groceries worth thousands of shillings during the incident.

His sentiments was also echoed by one of the survivors Benter Akoth who narrated that she managed to save her children from the incident as they escaped unhurt but lost all her properties.
