About 12 babies aged between one week and one year whose mothers are serving various sentences at the Migori Woman Prison got a relief when good Samaritans from the Kenya Relief Agency donated blankets and hospitality equipment.
This comes after the children were hit by pneumonia due to the dampness of the sleeping area at the facility.
Speaking to the press prison commandant Helen Owiti said help from Kenya Relief just adds what the National Government has done to make the children accompanying their convicted and remanded mothers feel better at the prison.
On their part, head of the inmates Linet Akinyi appealed to the government to impose softer sentences to the expectant and breastfeeding inmates to help them bring up their children under conducive environment.
