The Murang’a governor, Mwangi wa Iria has told the county public service board to focus on productivity of every employee.
Wa Iria on Tuesday disputed claims that there is bloated workforce in county governments saying what is missing is productivity.
He said the board should move out and ensure every employee is committed and doing the assigned duties effectively.
“Focus on productivity of employees,” the governor said it will improve service delivery in every sector under the county government.
“Claims of bloated workforce in county governments are just mere empty rhetoric. What is needed is to ensure those employed perform their duties effectively,” he added when he oversaw swearing in of new member to the Board, Dr. Agnes Kiwara.
He observed that the county government will continue employing especially expertise in the health sector.
“The government is expected to provide employment and here we will continue to fill employment gaps especially in health sector which needs several specialized personnel,” he added.
He further said they will also embark to replace members of the board whom their term is elapsing.
Meanwhile, Wa Iria said as county governments they will continue pushing for a law which will state how resources will be shared between national governments and devolved units.
The standoff which was witnessed at the beginning of the current financial year, he noted that has wasted a lot of time which could be used in providing services to Kenyans.
“We are seeking for legal advisory from Judiciary on how the funds will be shared in future and this will help funds received at counties without much delay,” he added.
The counties, he said appreciated gesture by President Uhuru Kenyatta over the release of the additional Sh.6 billion to the counties.
He lauded the end of standoff saying counties have started receiving funds and projects which stalled will be revived.
“The issue surrounding the delay is behind us now, as we wait for a verdict from Chief Justice, to ensure in future resources will be shared equitability,” said the governor.
At the centre of conflict, the Senate approved allocation of Sh.335 billion while the National Assembly stood at Sh. 316 billion.
