The Homa-Bay County has come up with a County Youth Internship programme aimed at equipping trained youth in various fields with skills.
The draft policy which has been subjected to public participation, intends to offer internship opportunities for trained youth in different county departmental offices.
Speaking on Friday during a public participation forum at Kabunde Hall in Homa-Bay town constituency, a member of the County Public Service Board in charge of Training and ICT, Tobias Odundo said that the draft will be forwarded to the County Assembly for adoption and enactment into law.
Odundo said the county departmental offices will be furnished with required equipment that would enable interns to develop their skills during their industrial attachment period.
The officer further said that interns enrolled in the programme will receive monthly stipends to motivate them to scale up their skills.
He revealed that those targeted in the programme will include TVET graduates, Form Four leavers, diploma holders, university graduates and not retirees or those people who have been sacked.
A section of the youth who attended the public participation gave mixed reactions whereas other residents expressed dissatisfaction with the policy, saying that the county government has been launching programs yet they don’t implement them.
Others observed that the internship policy was a noble opportunity to them if it is fully implemented.
