Approach merger of universities with caution, says chancellor

The  University of Embu Chancellor, Prof. Paul  Wambua has called for a cautious approach to the proposed merger of universities.

Prof. Wambua said the issue should be approached with soberness so as not to lose gains acquired so far.

The  Chancellor who was speaking during University of Embu 4th graduation ceremony on Friday said there is need for thorough consultation on the merger before its implementation.

However, he said it is entrenched in the law for each county to have a university, hence merging of the institutions of higher learning will also call for amendment of the constitution

Prof. Wambua challenged the graduates from the university not only to look for white colour jobs but also to use the knowledge they have attained from the university to create employment for themselves and for others.

“This graduation is a life time achievement for all of you and once out there go heads held high coupled with hard work, personal commitment and you will succeed,” he advised.

He also challenged them to continue building their career and skills and also to be learning from the mistakes they make in life.

The  Chancellor advised them never to stop learning, but to continue doing research of new skills so as to create a world which is different and bring changes which the world needs.

“Never be discouraged and do not gather around  prophets of doom, however maintain good values which are most sought for by employers,” he further advised.

The  Speaker of the National Assembly, Justin  Muturi  who graced the occasion appreciated the growth being experienced at the university, which within three years since it became fully fledged university has a population of over 7, 000 students.

He appreciated the paradigm shift being implemented through the new Competency Based Curriculum, adding that for the nation to industrialise this is the way to go adding that the University of Embu, through its courses is set for the new curriculum

During this year’s graduation in which over 1030 students from the university have graduated, the university presented its first two PhD graduands.
