Busia County Executive Members have proposed sh6 billion as this year’s supplementary budget.
Speaking during a meeting to review the status of the County projects at a hotel in Busia on Monday, Busia governor Sospeter Ojaamong said the budget discussed on Sunday will give priority to the health sector projects.
“Ongoing health projects within the Sub Counties’ and County Referral hospitals like ICUs and laboratories will be completed within three months,” he said, while expressing confidence that the proposed budget will be passed by MCAs.
Ojaamong promised to work closely with the executive and MCAs to ensure that they deliver campaign promises to the local residents.
He added that his team will double their efforts to ensure that development projects are completed within the stipulated time frame.
“We have been having challenges with the procurement department, but now we have advertised job vacancies to recruit people who will assist the department,” he said, adding that interviews were ongoing.
At the same time, the governor urged residents to join cooperatives so that they can access loans at low-interest rates.
He further advised residents to examine suggestions put forth by the Building Bridges Initiative, Punguza Mizigo and the civil society and ensure they support only those that support devolution.
“As governors we support Ugatuzi initiative to ensure that resources and services are brought to the grassroots level,” he said.
