Kakamega county government has constructed a secondary school for girls to the tune of Sh. 20 million in Navakholo Sub County.
St. Kizito Lusumu Girls High School, which will serve as a centre of excellence, will admit the first students in the January 2020.
The Deputy Governor, Prof. Philip Kutima, who commissioned the one-storey modern tuition block, said the county administration has constructed 25 centres of excellence to the tune of Sh.466 million in the past six years.
Prof. Kutima stated that although the basic education is a national government function, the county government is keen on improving the education standards by providing the necessary infrastructure.
“This facility aims at promoting the education of girls in this Sub County in particular and the County in general,” he said.
The Deputy County head added that mixing adolescents in high school tend to affect their performance, hence the need to separate them.
He urged parents in the area to take their children to the school in large numbers so as to make it sustainable.
On the same note, he promised that the Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers will receive a salary increment next year in a bid to motivate them.
He said ECDE is the foundation stage for learners and so has to be accorded the attention it deserves.
