Census officials urged to stay calm as government prepares to disburse payments

The  Kajiado County Commissioner (CC), Joshua  Nkanatha has called upon all census officials to remain calm as the government works round the clock to ensure that they receive their dues.

While addressing a public Baraza at Ngurumani, Kajiado West sub county, Nkanatha responded to queries of payment from village elders who took part in the exercise.

“We would like to know our fate as village elders who went round at night in the cold accompanying enumerators during the exercise because we are not sure when we are going to receive our dues, yet there is a lot of hunger in our homes,” Mzee John Ole Ntukenya sought for clarification.

However, in many parts of urban centers in the region, some individuals are still turning up in various chiefs’ offices to inquire if they can still be enumerated.

“I  was not counted during the week-long exercise since I was on duty the entire week at my work place that’s why today I visited the chiefs office in Kajiado to see if I can still be enumerated but I have been told it isn’t possible, because there are no stationed enumerators at the office and I have been informed that the gadgets have already been returned to the County headquarters,” Simon Kimani told KNA  on Friday.

The same sentiments were echoed by Kajiado Township location Chief, Joseph Kelian  who said, “We are still receiving a few individuals who are coming to our offices seeking to be enumerated, but we are referring them to the Kenya National Bureau Statistics offices.
