Chaos erupt at a secondary school

Chaos erupted on Friday outside St. Cecilia Girls secondary school Chepareria in West Pokot County when police engaged rowdy youth in running battles.
The rowdy youths were trying to bar Pokot South Member of Parliament David Pkossing from entering the school though he is the chairman of the board of management.
Several people including the school deputy head teacher were seriously injured and property of unknown value destroyed. KNA has established that the teacher is recuperating at Chepareria Sub County Hospital.
The MP had called for the meeting with parents of Chepareria Girls and Ortum Boys schools, but the rowdy youth denied him access to the schools, accusing him for taking politics to the institutions.
More than one hundred youth stormed at the school gate armed with stones and clubs, carrying placards chanting ,‘No Politics in schools’ while barring the MP from entering the school.
The irate youth stoned the MP’s convoy and burnt tyres at Chepareria Market.
Tension remained high while learning was paralyzed in the school as police patrolled the area and repulsed them.
The MP however entered the school and held the meeting with parents, teachers and board of management after the security officers used tear gas to disperse the rowdy youth.
Police arrested five of the rowdy and nabbed motorbikes which were being used to transport the youth to the venue.
This comes after two political camps of Jubilee and Kanu continue exchanging bitter words on social media following the cancellation of 2017, KCSE results of Chepareria girls and Ortum Boys High School.
The two groups have been threatening and blaming each other for the cancellation of the results in the social media.
The Kapenguria OCPD, Anthony Wanjuu, who led the operation warned supporters of two rival political groups in the county against causing chaos, adding that security officers will act firmly on law breakers.
“Politics is now over, and they have no reason to cause mayhem and unrest in the county making residents to stay in fear because of their squabbles,” said Wanjuu .
Speaking to the press at St Cecilia girls, Chepareria, Pkossing who is also the area M.P, faulted the area Governor Prof. John Lonyangapuo for sponsoring Kanu youth and goons from Trans-Nzoia and Makutano to block him from entering the school.
He called for the arrest of the area governor faulting him for causing chaos, disrupting and inciting youth to block students from reporting back to school.
“These youth are imported from Trans Nzoia and Makutano. Police should take over and go for the big fish, because the organizer is known. This is a failed leadership in the county and action must be taken,” said Pkossing.
Pkossing claimed that his life is in danger, adding that, he will go to the police to record a statement as he pursues the matter.
He faulted Kenya National examination Council (Knec) for releasing the results for the two schools and later cancelling them, citing cheating.
Pkossing later moved to Ortum Boys under tight security and held a meeting in the school without any interruption.
A parent at St. Cecilia, Lawrence Ondicho Owen condemned the incident and called on the KNEC to release results of their children.
“We need the results of our children,” he said.
