Legislator to table bill on establishment of secondary schools

Kabuchai MP James Lusweti Mukwe plans to table a bill in the national parliament to enable public primary schools establish a secondary school next to increase secondary school transition rates.
Speaking to journalists after presenting National government Constituency development fund ( NGCDF) bursary cheques to secondary, middle-level colleges and university students from the constituency, Mukwe said the bill will help students as they will not travel long distances to transit to secondary schools.
He noted that through the government’s help, coupled with other well-wishers and stake holders, the schools will be fully funded and developed. He said it will also provide an opportunity for the community members to get employment opportunities.
During the event, a total of Sh. 13 million was disbursed with colleges and universities getting a higher chunk of Sh. 8 million and high school students getting Sh. 5 million.
“I have been mandated by the people of Kabuchai to serve them in parliament and they have to feel free to contact me for any service they feel must be fulfilled,” he said.
Mukuyuni member of county assembly MCA Meshack Simiyu called upon residents and local leaders to work together instead of engaging in politics all the time, saying this delays development.
Among those who were present at the function was Luuya-Bwake MCA Rosemary Khisa, who called for mechanisms to be put in place to enhance transparency.
One of the beneficiaries, Opiya Muchwenge, a third-year student at the University of Eldoret could not hide his joy after being given a cheque amounting to Sh 100,000.
Chwenge said the funds will help reduce his school fees arrears of Sh 250,000, which has hindered him from attending classes on a regular basis.
Susan Manahe a form two student at St Theresa’s Tartar girls, who is an orphan was given Sh.25, 000 to settle her fees arrears.
