Leaders Challenged to Unite for County Progress

Biggy Foundation Director Mr. Joseph Owino has appealed to Kisumu County elected leaders to work together for the sake of development.

He said the close working relations between President Uhuru Kenyatta and African Union Envoy for Infrastructure Raila Odinga is a precedence that if emulated will help the locals.

“Let our local leaders unite and push for the increase of funds to counties to pledge workable projects to help our people,” he said.

He noted the sugar and rice industries should be of priority in Nyando Sub County to help farmers enhance their income and cushion them from poverty.

He said the once vibrant sectors should be uplifted and money channeled to spur economic growth in the region.

“The government should pay farmers their dues and fund the sectors to ensure they operate at their optimum and create many jobs for our youth,” he said.

Owino who was speaking to the media in Ahero town added that the irrigation schemes should be funded to increase production of rice for export.

Owino added that the proposed special economic zones in the area will create new markets and improve investments.

The entrepreneur also rubbished claims that he was involved in a gold scam in the recent news and said those dragging his name to the con game were out to tarnish his reputation.

“I am very clean on the issue. I was interrogated by the spy agency for straight two days but they found out insubstantial evidence linking me to the scam,” he said.

He further promised to empower the locals through his foundation by implementing projects targeting women and youth.
