A hotel manager who allegedly shot and killed a former police officer in Kisumu last weekend will spend three more days in custody awaiting mental examination.
Kisumu Resident Magistrate Angeline Odawo ordered the examination to be conducted on the suspect to determine whether he is fit to stand trial.
Daniel Jaoko reportedly shot Peter Otieno on the morning of August 17, 2019 at Poly View estate after the two argued over parking.
Otieno who operated a matatu business was leaving for duty at 5am when he found Jaoko’s car parked behind his 14 seater matatu.
The accused surrendered at Nyamasaria Police Station where his licensed firearm which had 15 rounds of ammunition was confiscated before being booked at Kondele Police Station.
A search in his house at Nyamasaria estate recovered an additional 42 rounds of ammunition.
The magistrate directed the suspect to be remanded at Kodiaga Maximum Prison pending the medical examination.
The suspect is set to take plea at a Busia court on August 29.
