Governor Barasa pledges improved maternal healthcare in Navakholo

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has reaffirmed his commitment to improving healthcare services in Navakholo Sub-county, with a special focus on maternal health.

Speaking at Naulu PAG Church in Bunyala Central Ward, the governor outlined key initiatives aimed at enhancing medical services in the region.

He said one of the major projects set to begin in June is the construction of a 45-bed capacity modern maternity ward at Navakholo Level 4 Hospital.

He said the plan, in partnership with the Safaricom Foundation, was expected to improve maternal healthcare and reduce congestion in existing facilities.

“We are taking the best steps to ensure that mothers and newborns receive good care. This new maternity ward will provide a safe and well-equipped environment for childbirth,” said Governor Barasa.

Additionally, he said the county government was finalising a 10-bed maternity unit at Buchangu Dispensary, which would soon be upgraded to a health centre.

He said the move aligns with the county’s broader goal of strengthening healthcare infrastructure and making quality services more accessible to the locals.

Governor Barasa emphasised the importance of collaboration in improving healthcare services, noting that partnerships with organisations like the Safaricom Foundation were key to achieving sustainable development.

“Our vision is to ensure that no mother has to struggle to access quality maternity care. By expanding our healthcare facilities, we are moving closer to that goal,” he said.

The governor’s address at Naulu PAG Church underscores the administration’s ongoing efforts to uplift healthcare services and enhance the well-being of residents in Kakamega County.
