Kirinyaga county women representative Wangui Ngirici has advised the youth, women and persons living with disabilities to go for the 30 percent government tenders set aside for them.
Ngirichi said the vulnerable groups must take advantage of the affirmative tender allocation both in the national and the county governments.
“It has come to my knowledge that local women and youth have applied for tenders from the county government, I can only assist if you show some interest,” she said.
The woman representative said she will assist youth and women seeking to register companies so that they can benefit from government awarded tenders.
“I am made to understand that only 20 percent of the entire targeted group has attempted to apply for the tenders, which leaves me wondering who were awarded the 30 percent allocation meant for the special interest groups,” she posed.
The county MP accompanied by her Uasin Gishu counterpart Gladys Boss Shollei also urged women to form groups in order to benefit from the women affirmative funds already released by the Treasury.
Ngirichi made the remarks at Kandongu primary school Tuesday, during distribution of cheques to various women groups in the county.
Additionally, he said cancer cases were on the rise and urged the county government to set up a cancer screening center at the Kerugoya level four hospital.
On the recent war of words between her and Governor Anne Waiguru, the MP said she will not be distracted from serving Kirinyaga people and delivering on her mandate.
I am asking Waiguru to concentrate on developing the county, instead of creating side shows after failing to deliver,” she said
“Kirinyaga people voted for me with over 80 percent of the votes and therefore every leader should play his/ her role,” she added.
The two women leaders have been at loggerheads with Ngirichi supporting of deputy president and governor Waiguru supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga’s handshake campaigns in Mt. Kenya region.
The women rep now wants Waiguru to stop capitalizing on projects lobbied by area MPs. Ngirichi said together with Mwea MP Kabinga Wachira they lobbied for tarmacking of the Kagio –Mutithi road, yet the governor has been claiming she is the one who pushed for the road from the national government.
“Let the governor stop misleading residents over national government projects. That is the work of legislators, instead she should use county funds to spur development,’’ she said.
