Nyandarua signs MoU with cereal growers to support farmers

The County Government of Nyandarua has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Cereal Growers Association (CGA) to help farmers in the county address the various challenges affecting their production and sales.

The collaboration aims to strengthen partnerships, improve agricultural practices, and enhance food security.

County Executive Committee Member in charge of Agriculture Mr. Francis Miring’u and CGA’s Head of Business Dr. Moses Osia said the partnership will come in handy in assisting farmers’ access to clean seeds in various value chains that include potatoes, peas and maize.

They will see improved yields, and the farmers will also be assisted to get access to markets for their produce.

The partnership will also ensure farmers in each of Nyandarua’s 25 wards access certified seeds and markets for farm yields.

This comes after Governor Dr. Moses Kiarie Badilisha’s recent distribution of subsidised fertiliser for the ongoing short rains and planting season.

The duo spoke at Ol-Kalou during a stakeholders’ sensitisation forum and later inked an MOU with the CGA.

At the same time, the CECM noted that at least 9,000 farmers are poised to benefit from the best soil testing practices to help optimise agricultural yield, diseases and pest control.

They challenged farmers to embrace the tradition of conducting soil testing to identify the state of their soils and be informed on what to do to improve on the soil performance.
