Tana River County Development Implementation and Coordination Committee has stopped handing over of the newly built Fayya Technical Vocational Training Centre (TVET) by the contractor to the Coast Regional Director for TVET centres citing uncompleted works of the project.
The Committee chairman who is the Tana River County Commissioner Oningoi Ole Sosio said the handing over process that was to take place this Friday has been stopped with immediate effect, until the contractor replaces the roof of the center, which is already leaking and yet the building is new.
Leading the Committee members on an inspection tour of national government development projects in the County Tuesday, Sosio said immediately the contractor hands over the uncompleted works he will vanish and the government will have lost Sh50million that was used to build the centre.
The Tana River County Commissioner warned, “Only when this County Development Implementation and Coordination Committee is satisfied with the completions works of the Training Centre, will it authorize the handing over process take place.”
He said the Committee was formed to ensure that national government development projects are not done shoddily and are completed on time to avoid wastage of government funds and also ensure quality services are delivered to Kenyans.
The County Commissioner also urged the contractor undertaking the construction of the damaged road sections at Nanighi junction and Bura along Madogo-Hola road covering 19kms to haste the works and complete the works before May/2020 to avoid heavy rains that could halt the process.
He said the road sections were damaged by heavy rains of May/2019 hence, the national government awarded the construct to M/S Al Wahab Enterprises Limited Company to re-construct the damaged sections at tune of about Sh200million.
The Committee on inspection tour yesterday established the contractor had done on 16 percent of the road works after being awarded the tender on October 4 2018, with completion expected on April 3, 2020.
