A total of 50 farmers groups in Vihiga County are set to benefit from sh.50 million from the World Bank under the National Agricultural and Rural Inclusive Growth Project (NARIGP) initiative.
County Chief Officer (CO) in charge of agriculture Mrs. Pamela Busungu made the revelation Tuesday in an exclusive interview with Kenya News Agency at her office in Mbale town.
Mrs. Busungu said her department was in the meantime receiving project proposals from various farmers groups across the County.
“We have received numerous proposals since official announcement of the same a month ago,” she said.
The CO further revealed that the committee in charge of receiving the proposals had already validated proposals from the targeted eight wards among them Mungoma, Central Bunyore, Luanda South, Sabatia West and Gisambai.
She, however, urged farmers, who have not submitted proposals to do so before end of August, adding the objective of the exercise was to enhance agricultural productivity in the county.
Mrs. Busungu assured locals that successful groups would receive funds
once disbursed by the World Bank.
NARIGP’s key objectives include supporting community-driven development, strengthening producer organizations and value chain development as well as supporting county community-led development.
Others include project coordination, planning and finance activities related to national and county-level project coordination.
