Transport stakeholders in Kiambu town have commended the County Government for upgrading the Kiambu town main stage.
Speaking to KNA at Kiambu main stage, Matatu operators and passengers expressed appreciation in regard to the renovation currently being undertaken in the lower part of the stage.
According to the project’s contractor, Mr. Murage Muthoga, the stage whose construction began early this month will not only improve the transport services but will also beautify the area. He said the project is scheduled to be completed within 60 days.
Muthoga told KNA that the stage ground will be cemented using cabro blocks while the sides will be fitted with shaded shelters with benches to enable passengers to relax as they wait for matatus. Trees, he added will be planted around the stage.
The proposed layout has elated Peter Mathenge, a driver of a 14-seater Matatu under the Kacose Sacco, a happy man.
“My vehicle will no longer breakdown constantly due to driving on the rough and uneven surface. Driving on rough ground wear out vehicle springs. I am happy I will not incur unnecessary repair costs,” Mathenge said.
Sheryl Wanjiku, a resident of Juja, said that the shelters would cover her from the blazing sun and rain as she waits for matatus.
Currently, some of the matatus have moved to the upper section of the stage while the rest were operating on a temporary stage opposite the main one.
