Professionals urged to be role models to youth

Professionals in the public sector have been challenged to act as role models to the society.

Information, Communication and Technology Principal Administrative Secretary Eric Kiraithe blamed some professionals for failing to act as role models to the youth in the communities they served.

Speaking at Gusii stadium in Kisii where he represented Cabinet secretary, Joe Mucheru at the ongoing 48th edition of KECOSO games, the PAS claimed that while some politicians took their part in uniting the country through Building Bridges Initiative, some professionals were being defined by the millions stolen from the public coffers.

Kiraithe noted that the professionals stood accused of neglecting the communities instead of ploughing back resources to them.

Kitutu Chache North legislator, Jimmy Angwenyi added his voice to the ongoing dispute between the National Assembly and Senate over sharing of revenue to counties, where he urged governors to immediately accept the 15 percent money already allocated to them as they wait for the balance.

He hinted that current efforts to resolve the impasse were likely to bear fruits soon and appealed to governors to ensure the resources allocated were used for development.

Meanwhile, Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) football team  under veteran coach Abdalla Juma were forced to a 1:1 draw by Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) in a tough match played at Gusii stadium.

Eliakim Nyaanga scored for KMA in the 29th minute while Bryan Juma replied for CA in the 43rd minute.

KMA coach, Nassir Kassim praised his team for putting up a sterling performance describing it as an intense game until both conceded goals.

“I’m happy with the results but I plan to work on my striking force before the next match against KAA tomorrow (Tuesday),” he said.

Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) ladies team defended their netball KECOSO title by thrashing Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, urban development and Public Works (MoTIHUD & PW) (56-10) at Kisii High School grounds.

Relying on their top scorer Lydia Atieno who scored 47 goals, the defending champions led 16-2 in the first quarter, before winning the other sets 14-2, 8-2 and 18-4.

In the other match played at the same venue, Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) mauled Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) 119-3: 32-1, 34-0, 26-1 and 27-1.

In Basketball Posta Corporation of Kenya (PCK) beat (MoTIHUD & PW) 71-47: 18-13, 8-10, 19-7 and 26-7).

Job Bryan and Titus Musembi managed 22 and 15 points for the victors who are the defending champions while MoTIHUD & PW’s Victor Adodi and Jackton Akunda scored 18 and 15 points respectively.
