County Commissioner’s residence gutted down

The official residence of Homa Bay County Commissioner Herman Shambi was on sunday night razed after a mysterious fire broke out.

Shambi who was in the house with his family said the cause of the fire could not be immediately established adding it started from one of the bedrooms before rapidly spreading to other rooms.

The County Commissioner said nothing was salvaged as the smoke and flames were overwhelming but confirmed that nobody was injured.

He said the fire might have been caused by an electrical fault adding that investigations had been launched.

“Everything was gutted down to ashes including important documents and the children’s books,” the County Commissioner said.

Shambi said his family had just moved into the house following his recent transfer from Nyeri to Homa Bay County.

The County has no functional fire engine which made fighting the inferno impossible.
