Three women are being held at Voi Police Station following the death of a middle-aged man at Mwakingali village in Voi sub-county after a brawl gone awry.
Police investigations have established that that prior to his death, the man was going home slightly drunk last weekend, but along the way, he exchanged fiery words with one of the suspects, a neighbor at the village.
Shortly afterwards, the woman shouted for help and two other women responded. They pinned the drunkard down and punched him repeatedly. One of the suspects smashed a piece of timber on his head before the trio fled back to their homes leaving the victim bleeding profusely.
Speaking to KNA on Sunday, the County Police Commander (CPC), Saidi Kiprotich said the victim later developed complications and was rushed to Moi County Referral Hospital for urgent treatment.
A scan revealed the man had sustained a cracked skull, posing the risk of internal bleeding and brain damage.
His desperate family later tranferred him to Mombasa Coast General Hospital (CHG) for specialized treatment but he succumbed to the injuries.
The police promptly arrested the three suspects. “We have the three suspects in our custody. The court granted our request to hold them for some extra days to allow us complete our investigations,” the police commander said.
Meanwhile, Kiprotich cautioned members of public against taking the law into their own hands despite the level of provocation, adding that such matters should be reported to the police for action.
The deceased leaves behind a widow and one child.
